Frequently Asked Questions
Is it worth joining AWI in Florida?

For most Florida woodwork manufacturers, suppliers, and design pros, yes. AWI membership gives you the architectural woodwork standards that architects and general contractors specify by name, eligibility for Quality Certification Program (QCP) projects, a listing in the AWI member directory where buyers look for shops, and discounts on training and events. The Florida Chapter adds local networking with woodwork professionals across the state. Whether it pays off depends on how often you bid specified commercial work; shops that do AWI-spec projects usually recover the dues quickly.

You join through AWI National at awinet.org/get-started. Create a profile, complete the application, and pay the dues. Applications are usually reviewed in three to five business days, and you get a confirmation email once approved. To be part of the Florida Chapter, you join AWI National first and then join the Florida Chapter, which has its own separate dues, so plan on both memberships.

Membership includes the full AWI Standards suite with technical support, a listing in the AWI online member directory, discounts on QCP fees, workshops, and events, on-demand training and credentialing through AWI IS, eligibility to be featured in Design Solutions magazine, and a peer community with leadership opportunities. Manufacturing, Supplier, and Industry members can also use the AWI logo on marketing materials. In Florida, you also get local chapter events and direct connections to woodwork professionals around the state.

No. AWI membership has two parts, each with its own dues. You join AWI National for the standards, certification eligibility, directory, and education, and you join the Florida Chapter for the local network, events, and the people doing architectural woodwork in your area. You will need both memberships, and both sets of dues, to be a full Florida Chapter member.

AWI National dues depend on your member type and, for manufacturers, on your company’s gross annual sales. Manufacturing companies with gross annual sales under $500,000 also complete an AWI Small Business Program form with their application. Because the amounts vary by company size and can change, AWI National lists current pricing at awinet.org/pricing. You can pay National dues annually by check, ACH, wire transfer, or credit card, and after the first year you can pay monthly by credit card. These dues are separate from Florida Chapter dues.

A shop that manufactures architectural woodwork, including casework, paneling, fixtures, doors, countertops, and finished millwork, joins as a Manufacturing member. This is the membership type that lets you pursue QCP certification and use the AWI logo on bids and marketing. Manufacturing dues are based on your gross annual sales.

Suppliers can join. If your business sells raw materials, products, hardware, equipment, or services to architectural woodwork manufacturers, you join as a Supplier member. Supplier members get directory exposure to the shops and designers who buy what you sell, plus access to AWI events and publications.

Yes. Architects, interior designers, general contractors, installers, educators, students, and other industry professionals who support the woodwork industry but do not manufacture or supply it join as Affiliate members. Affiliate members get access to AWI standards, education, and the member community, which helps designers write spec language that holds up and helps GCs find standards-compliant shops.

Both businesses and individuals can join. AWI welcomes individual professionals, including educators and students, alongside manufacturing and supplier companies. Membership is also open to both U.S. and international businesses and individuals.

The AWI Florida Chapter is the statewide chapter of the Architectural Woodwork Institute, serving manufacturers, suppliers, and industry professionals who work in quality millwork throughout Florida. The chapter promotes ethical business practices, education, and the development of the architectural woodwork industry across the state, and it gives Florida members a local network on top of AWI National membership.
